It was a beautiful scene surrounding her as she sat down on the edge of the platform on the windmill. The rolling hills looked like they would stretch on forever, but if you squinted, you could faintly make out the buildings located downtown. The buildings and puffs of smoke were the only things that ruined the landscape which brought a small frown to Chloe’s face. She sighed and glanced around at the farm land and trees for a sign of life. Little animals scurried about on the ground below, but it was hard to tell what they were up to. Besides that, the surrounding area was deserted since it was the middle of the day, and most people had school or work. The windmill was actually prohibited from people climbing on it, but Chloe had once again defied the rules and climbed up the unstable ladder. It was far up from the ground, and there weren’t any restraints that would restrict her from falling 50 feet.
Leaning back against the palms of her hands, Chloe closed her eyes and tilted her head back to absorb the warm sunlight that shined down upon her. Her hair fell back, blowing back in the breeze with the scarf that was tied around her head like a head-band. It was a fairly warm day so she dressed lightly in a brown ‘Alexisonfire’ band tee-shirt, faded jeans, and brown ballet flats. Her bag lay beside her, containing her prized possession. Her laptop. She had spent most of her 2nd year of college saving up from the laptop, and she had finally purchased it during the beginning of her 3rd year. It contained most of her writings, latest works and pictures for the college newspaper. The main reason why she had come down to the windmill was to take a few shots for her next article. She was going to take a few blurred shots of the rolling hills, and focus on the buildings and clouds of smoke that could be seen from downtown Escapade. Her idea for the article was to expose the expansion of industries and the high-tech world which was taking away from the beauty of Mother Nature. Hayden of course, thought that it was a ridiculous article. She shook her head, remembering what he had said about her idea… The high-tech, modern world is a good thing. It’s great actually! Who wants to be stuck in the 20th century? Who cares about trees when there are nice landscapes like modern buildings? Chloe’s response to him was a mere snort and a witty reply. Says the guy who thinks the world revolves around American Eagle and Aeropostale. Maybe if you cut back on the mousse in your hair, you’d be less dense. That’s probably how they were in yet another fight with each other. It wasn’t a surprise. They were always fighting about one thing or another, yet they were always able to compromise and have a good time together… Even if Hayden was a dense idiot with rocks for brains.
